The Daily Board: Wednesday, September 2, 2026
Grains and oilseeds gave back a slice of their recent rally on profit-taking today, even as crude held its Hormuz-fueled bid and gold clawed back a small piece of Tuesday's rate-hike rout.

The Read
🌽 Corn — 543½, -2½ (-0.46%) 🔴⬇️
Light profit-taking hit the grain complex as December corn backed off after challenging technically overbought territory near 550.
Ethanol usage stayed on pace (326 million gallons last week, +3.3% year over year), while export sales are running 30% behind last year with no new-crop sales booked since Aug. 21.
Hot, dry weather is speeding up Corn Belt maturity, a mixed blessing that wraps up the crop faster but can still clip yield where grain fill isn't finished.
So what: faster maturity means combines roll sooner, but the corn/bean acreage fight keeps a lid on how far this market runs into harvest.
Watch: Thursday's USDA export sales report, plus positioning ahead of the three-day Labor Day weekend.
🫘 Soybeans — 1310¼, -7½ (-0.57%) 🔴⬇️
Beans pulled back from fresh contract highs (November flirted with the $13.25 level overnight) on plain profit-taking, not a change in the story.
China keeps buying: private exporters flagged another 202,000 tonnes of new-crop beans today, on top of 136,000 tonnes a day earlier, as Beijing works through its 25-million-tonne commitment.
StoneX raised its call on Brazil's 2026/27 crop to a record 183.5 million tonnes, a reminder South American supply keeps growing too.
So what: the China demand pull is still the story behind your new-crop bids, even on a red day.
Watch: whether the seven-session run of higher highs resumes once this profit-taking clears out.
🥩 Soybean Meal — 349.60, -3.00 (-0.85%) 🔴⬇️
Meal eased with the rest of the complex but held up a touch better than oil, keeping the crush (the margin a processor earns turning beans into meal and oil) on the wide side.
Livestock and poultry feed demand remains the steady hand under the protein side of the complex.
So what: a wide crush is generally good news for anyone selling beans into a processor, even when meal's flat price is soft.
Watch: whether meal keeps outperforming oil if the biofuel trade cools further.
