How to read these grain prices
Futures, not cash: every line except feed barley is an exchange settlement. Your elevator or crusher bid is that futures price plus or minus basis.
Native units: canola is C$ per tonne; US grains are US cents per bushel. They are never blended or converted silently.
Contract month: each line names its month. A jump on a roll to the next month is not a rally.
Feed barley: a weekly cash series, so it often carries the prior week's level.
Which line matters for your crop
Canola: ICE canola, the only Canadian futures on the list.
Spring wheat (CWRS): Minneapolis HRS is the closest futures reference. Chicago SRW is a poor proxy. See why there are three wheat futures.
Feed barley: the Lethbridge cash price, with US corn as the competing feed grain.
Oats: Chicago oats futures are thin, so big percentage moves on light volume are common.
Frequently asked questions
What are grain prices today?
This page lists the latest verified futures close for canola, the three wheat boards, corn, soybeans and oats, plus the latest weekly Alberta feed barley cash price. The session date is shown with the table.
Are these Saskatchewan or Alberta elevator prices?
No. They are futures settlements (plus one weekly cash series for feed barley). A local cash bid is the futures price plus or minus basis, which varies by elevator, crusher and week.
Why are some prices in US cents and some in Canadian dollars?
Each market is quoted in its exchange's own units. Canola trades on ICE in Canadian dollars per tonne. Corn, soybeans, wheat and oats trade in Chicago, Kansas City and Minneapolis in US cents per bushel.
How often are these grain prices updated?
After each trading session, from the same verified close used in that evening's Daily Board. Feed barley updates weekly.
